Awww, I Love These Things.

So I got tagged in a Liebster Award from my pally-wally Izzy (whom I love, and I swear to God above I will email you back as soon as I'm done with my play XOXO) and I figured that while I am procrastinating finishing my AP work (which I really should finish considering how it is due tomorrow and I had all vacation to do it and I DIDN'T because I was busy with other things but whatever; none of you care about that) I would do this because it makes me happy that I was nominated so yay.  I love getting things.  Or being nominated for things.

I promise that I will update all of you on my ridiculous life later, but right now, let's procrastinate!  Onwards and upwards!

Question One: Who is your favorite musical artist ever?
Izzy, you are a cruel mistress.  I have no idea who my favorite musical artist is, because it is constantly changing.  Going on voice alone, and how willing I am to pirate their music, I'd have to say Aaron Tveit - and if you don't know Aaron Tveit, be prepared.  I am planning to do a post about how much I love him.  But yeah, Aaron Tveit.  I love his voice an inordinate amount.  It is kind of sickening, really, but hey - who's judging?  Not this kid.
...Oh, did you mean like MUSICIAN, not like... musical artist... Like not an actor... Oh my god I'm an absolute idiot.
Musical artists - right now it's Johnny Flynn.  The same statement holds from before.  My preferences are always changing.
Actually, getting down to brass taxes, I think Aaron Tveit is just my favorite everything.

Question Two: Favorite John Green Book?
No contest.  The Fault in Our Stars, hands down.  The is the first book that I've ever written in, it affected me that much.  John Green is my inspiration, and his books are proof that you don't have to write down to teenagers, which happens so often in the YA genre.  TFiOS affected me more than a book should be able to, so that is my favorite.

Question Three: Best Harry Potter character and why?
I am not meaning to sound cliche when I say this, but honestly, Harry is my favorite character, and he is the best character to me.  Harry is weirdly underrated as a favorite character when you ask people.  I connect with Harry.  He is trying to make his way through this wonderful world that he has discovered, a world that doesn't solve all of his problems, a world that creates problems just the way the Muggle world does.  Harry is brave, and a good person, and intensely loyal to his friends and while he isn't as smart as Hermione or as funny as Ron, Harry is so sarcastic and so sassy (something that was missing from the movies, in my opinion.  Sass Potter is the best Potter.).  But Harry was, no is, one of my best friends.  He got me through my childhood.  He was my best friend when I needed one, and he is always there when I need him.  Harry is my favorite and he is the best, because he is such a good person, and I think we can all learn a learn a lesson from him.
And thus ends my rant.

Question Four: Do you get along well with your siblings?
Yes and no.  For those who don't know, I have two brothers - one older, one younger - and while my older brother and I get along simply because of our proximity of age, my younger brother and I have a great deal more in common and if he were older would probably be friendlier.  So yes, I do get along quite well with my brothers.  They can both being annoying little shits, but I love them anyways.

Question Five: Do you prefer big fluffy socks, slipper socks, or slippers?
BIG FLUFFY SOCKS.  END OF.

Question Six: Favorite film you've watched this year?
UGH.  This is another evil question.  Well, considering that I watched Les Mis on the first, I'm inclined to say Les Miserables, because it was kind of a life-changing experience.  I mean, let's be honest, it really was.  If any of you follow me on Tumblr, you know this.  My Tumblr is basically a shrine to Les Miserables, Aaron Tveit's butt, really terrible puns, and off-color humor.  You should follow it for a laugh.  And I'm not joking about the Aaron Tveit's butt thing.  That is a thing.  (Sorry for the self-promotion; I honestly laugh at these things and I want others to laugh with me.  So laugh with me?)
Besides Les Miserables, I really liked Howl, with James Franco and (WHAT A SHOCKER) Aaron Tveit.  It was a movie about Allen Ginsberg, and I loved it.
Also, Girl Walks Into A Bar with (HOLY SHIT I HAVE A HUGE PROBLEM SEND HELP I HAVE FALLEN AND I CAN'T GET UP) Aaron Tveit (WHO WOULD HAVE GUESSED THAT?) and a bunch of other people.  You can watch it for free on YouTube and I totally recommend that you do, since the banter in this movie is legendary and it is all that I strive for in my own writing.
So yeah. Those are my favorites so far.  No one judge me.

Question Seven: Do you prefer high school or university? (Sorry Jen!)
I'm assuming the sorry Jen is for me, as I am (so sadly) not yet out of high school.  I don't really mind high school.  It's fine, but I'm pretty done with it at this point.  I can't wait to start the next part of my life, and at this point I just need to get out of my tiny little town and see the world.  However, I have one year left, which is stupid, but hey, I'm fine with not growing up and assuming adult responsibilities.

Question Eight: Favorite fizzy drink?
Oh Izzy, you are so delightfully British and when I come to England I am hanging out with you in real life and we are getting fizzy drinks and talking about boys and generally being goons.  Do you want this?  Because I do.  But my favorite fizzy drink is Fanta.  I do like all orange sodas, but Fanta is my favorite, and it reminds me of Israel.  Other than Fanta, I like ginger ale and root beer.

Question Nine: Favorite season?
I am partial to autumn because 1. my birthday is in autumn; 2. where I live it is exceptionally beautiful during the autumn; and 3. it is the perfect temperature for me.

Question Ten: Make-up - do you care about it or not?
Hmm, this is a tough one.  I absolutely do wear make-up.  I don't like the whole feminist idea that make-up was created by men and that women shouldn't wear it.  If you want to wear make-up, wear the fuck out of that make-up.  Wear it for you.  That is who I wear it for.  I wear makeup for myself.  I wear it to get rid of my dark circles and my acne scars and all that other junk.  I think wearing red lipstick makes me feel like a princess and if I could wear it every day I totally would.  I wear eye makeup almost every day because I like how it looks.  It makes me feel pretty and that is what counts.
But I also have days where I say 'fuck it' and I throw in the towel and I only put on lotion and I still feel just as beautiful as if I was wearing all of my makeup.  Makeup is a state of mind.  We are all the makeup.

So thank you for this, Izzy!  I don't really know who to tag, because I kind of don't have enough brain power or time left to procrastinate to figure out who to tag, so that will come later.  But it will come!  Possibly with my next post!

Love and Kisses, all of you goonies!

I'm off to finish my work and then to watch the Oscars, because the Les Miserables cast is performing and I need my daily dose of Aaron Tveit and Eddie Redmayne.  What can I say; I'm insatiable.  And insane.

Yes that too.

Alright - love and kisses fooligans!

I Love Going To Concerts

So the concert I went to was absolutely ACE.  I'm officially in love with the band Grouplove.  Like, to me, they are the epitome of what a band should be.  They got up on stage and just grooved and danced and generally had a kick-ass time up there doing something they loved for all of us in the audience, and I just wanted to go up and hug them all and tell them all that they are beautiful people and that they are one of the reasons I listen to music.

Here.  Listen to their music.  It will make you happy.  Or at least, it makes me happy.  So give it a try.

Tongue Tied
Lovely Cup
Colours
Naked Kids

Honestly, they acted the same way on stage that they did in these videos.  They just seemed to be having an crazy awesome time.

Plus it doesn't hurt that their lead singer is attractive.  I mean damn.  He had pink hair too, at the concert.  Adorbs.

But the concert was so much fun.  Reptar, who I had no idea about before, are now becoming a new favorite.  They are like stoner music, like, the kind of music you would listen to stoned.  A little bit like MGMT.  Not that I'm a stoner (I am morally opposed to smoking weed; that is another post for another day, however.), as I am not.  It just makes me think of that genre of music.  It was really good.  You should check them out.

Body Faucet
Stuck In My Id
Blastoff
Context Clues

So were Stephie Coplan and the Pedestrians.  THEY WERE ACE.  Oh my god, she is my hero.  I love her music, and that band just has such a cool sound, and oh my god so good!!!

Jerk!
Caroline
Heartbroken in Hoboken
Flight 413

You should go to their bandcamp and buy their EP since I can't yet.  DO IT DO IT DO IT!!! They are so talented and they deserve everything they get.  They are better than half of the stuff on the radio nowadays, and they aren't even signed.  Get on that, yo!

And Two Door Cinema Club.  Oh my god.  I can't even begin to describe how much I love this band.  It's a lot.  Let's leave it at that.  I was dancing like a lunatic for the full hour they were on.  They were just so good!!!  I can't wait for their new album; lucky me, I got to hear two new songs off of it.  Winner winner!

What You Know
I Can Talk
Undercover Martyn
Something Good Can Work

So summer has started for me, finally.  It doesn't feel like it, but it is summer.  Hopefully the weather will pick up.  Here's hoping!

Let me know how your summers have been!  What have y'all been up to?

Love and kisses,

Jen

P.S. Was that enough links?  I'm crazy :)

April 6/7: Yeah Yeah Yeah, I KNOW! Here Is Some Music and Words.

I failed BEDA.  I did.  It was going so well, and then POOF.  So here is a extra super long bloggy type post to compensate for the fact that I cannot finish anything.  So here are two things.  I hope you like my things.

Also, a huge thank you to the people who gave me ideas for my play!  They really helped! You got the brain juices flowing, and the bubble bath was awesome.  Y'all are just the best.

Thing 1: A List of Jennelle's Favorite* Songs Right Now
*Keep in mind that I listen to a LOT of music, so favorite isn't so much of a permanent thing.  Things change.  A lot.  So here's twenty songs I like right now.

The Fault In Our Stars - Bloom
If you've read the book, it is based on it.  If you haven't, it is still a really good song.

Daisy's Lullaby (The Great Gatsby Rap) - Will Thwaites
Honestly the best rap about a book I've ever heard.  It doesn't hurt that I love The Great Gatsby, but still.

Falling Slowly - Glan Hansard and Marketa Irglova
I love this song.  Like a lot.  Like I would marry the guy who sang this to me playing guitar.  Any takers?

Loveology - Regina Spektor
This isn't on any of her albums.  But this song is amazing.  I love Regina Spektor.  SO MUCH.

Oedipus - Regina Spektor
Yeah, Regina Spektor is the best.  There will be a few songs from her on this list.  And this will be long.

Bobbing For Apples - Regina Spektor
This is so good, and then there is just one line and you have to laugh.  Hard.

Little Talks - Of Monsters and Men
I love this band.  The two lead singer's voices are amazing.  Like absolutely aces.

The Curse - Josh Ritter
This song is so beautiful.  Josh Ritter is a new favorite.

Feeding Line - Boy and Bear
They're from Australia.  Come on, it's me.

Indigo - Tom Milsom
I think that Tom Milsom is a genius when it comes to music.  He doesn't try to fit into any set genre.  He's his own thing.  Plus this song teaches you the names to about a billion cool colours.

A Little Irony - Tom Milsom
One comment. Look at how big his hands are.  Piano hands.

Song For The Painfully Indie - Tom Milsom
Seriously.  This guy is amazing. This song could make hipsters doubt themselves.

Lady Godiva - Alex Day
Okay, it's Alex Day.  How could you not love him.  Honestly.  Look at his pants.  Just look at them.  Or his face.  Look at that too.

Bread - Charlie McDonnell
You will sing this.  It will get stuck in your head, and you will sing it forever.

Doctor What - Charlie McDonnell
It's Doctor Who + Charlieissocoollike.  Again, come on, it's me.

Catch My Disease - Ben Lee
It is so catchy and happy.  You can't not love it.

Counting On Karma - Will Dailey and the Rivals
This guy has such a good voice, and this song has such a nice message.

After Tonight - Justin Nozuka
This guy could win the sexy voice award.  ALL THE AWARDS.  I've loved this guy for years, but this recently came up on my iPod and I was like 'LOVE ALL OVER AGAIN!'

The Science of Selling Yourself Short - Less Than Jake
I could do a whole list on ska songs I like.  Maybe I will.  Tee hee, I love ska music.  It is so happy.

Keasbey Nights - Streetlight Manifesto
Try singing this song.  Very hard.  But you will still totally try.

Okay, I'm done with boring you all with my weird music tastes.  I listen to a lot more than what I've shown you, since I've highlighted a few artists or whatever, but yeah.  I really like these songs, and I fully endorse the artists, because they are all brilliant.

Thing 2:  A Snippet of My Play
I promised you guys that I would show you this, so here is a little bit of my play.  I hope you enjoy it, because this play is killing me.  It's due in a week and I'm not even halfway done.  Anyway, no complaining. Enjoy!

"                        GARRETT
(gives her a face; shoves some noodles in his mouth, talking around them)
So what?  Don’t tell me that you wouldn’t change it if you could?

                        VALERIE
By ‘it’ you mean my disability, right?  I don’t think I would, actually.

                        RUTH
Why is that, Valerie?

                        VALERIE
I like who I am.  So, I have a disability, and sometimes life doesn’t make sense.  But that doesn’t mean that I wouldn’t wish it away.  My disability makes me unique.

     (everyone freezes, save GARRETT)

                        GARRETT
(sets down Chinese food, stands up)
See, this is why I didn’t want to come.  ‘My disability makes me unique’.  Sure, having a disability might make you different, but if I could get rid of my Tourette’s, I would.  In a heartbeat. And the anxiety that comes with the Tourette’s?  Yeah, I could really do without that. And the headaches that I get when I try to conceal my tics?  Yeah, they are just a barrel of freaking laughs.  I was seven when they gave me my diagnosis.  Seven.  It’s been ten years.  And living with this hasn’t gotten any easier.
              (sits)

     (everyone unfreezes)

GARRETT
              (a certain level of contempt)
Your disability makes you ‘unique’?  Is that so?  Well, just hop on board the obvious train and get yourself a prize!  What do you have, anxiety?

(waits for VALERIE to respond; when she doesn’t, continues, with a kind of malicious glee)

(cont.) Or is it something even more embarrassingly un-disabled?  What is it, huh?  Is it a panic disorder?

(VALERIE fidgets, obviously uncomfortable.  GARRETT has hit his mark.)

(cont.) It is a panic disorder, isn’t it?  Well, aren’t you a special snowflake?

                         VALERIE
               (close to tears)
You don’t have to be so mean!  We’re all here because we’re disabled, whether you want to admit it or not.  You don’t have to be such a massive dick about it!

                         GARRETT
               (yelling)
Accept that you aren’t unique!  Having a disability makes you disabled, and that’s it!  Deal with it!

(VALERIE bursts into tears and runs from the room.  Everyone else is deadly quiet.  WALTER and JACK look awkwardly at one another; ABBY signs ‘do you understand what happened?’ at LIV and LIV shakes her head and signs ‘no’. RUTH is furious)

                         RUTH
(deadly calm; this is a side of RUTH that is rarely seen, but she is like a mama bear right now.)
Garrett, there is no reason for you to talk to Valerie that way.  This group was created for support and I’m not going to have you undermine its inherent message by letting you degrade its members.  You just attacked Valerie personally, and believe me when I tell you that it will never happen again.  Now, you will go find Valerie, and apologize.  Right now.

(everyone turns and looks at GARRETT, who holds up his hands in defeat)

                         GARRETT
(holds up his hands in defeat)
Fine.  I’ll go apologize.  But only because you asked so nicely.

     (blackout)"

So yeah, that was part of my play.  Please tell me what you thought of it, I could really use your help!

I think that that compensates for me forgetting yesterday.  In my defense, I was reading A Game of Thrones, so there.

Happy Easter/Passover to all, and to all a good night!  Day.  Whatever, you know what I mean.

Love and kisses,

Jen

The Most Pretentious Thing I Have Ever Seen, Ever

So (I always start my stories off with so.  Does anyone else do this?  Is it just me?  I need to end this habit.  No more so for me.  I need a better starting word.)

Lackaday (Nope, not working.  Say it with me kiddywinks - I am not a pretentious asshole, I am not a pretentious asshole, I am not a pretentious asshole.  Saying it three times makes it true.)

Anyway (No, L., ya moron, anyway is used when continuing a story.  And you want to be an author and/or teach English.  Shame shame shame on you!)

The craziest thing happened to me (Not only is that phrase not true, you again sound like a pretentious asshole.)

(Fuck it, I'm sticking with So)

So today I was at the library after school, which is where I usually am because A.  I love libraries, B. It is convenient because it is a three minute walk from my school to my town's library and C.  I'm just a nerd and I hang out at libraries.  DON'T YOU JUDGE ME, FERDINAND!  I KNOW WHAT YOU DID WITH THAT SWAN, YA FLOOZY!

Where was I?  Oh yes.

I was in the library and I was browsing through the classical music CDs because, again (as if it already hasn't been established by now), I'm a nerd.  As I was browsing through the CDs, I came across one with the title 'The Only Beethoven CD You Will Ever Need'.  And I thought that that was pretentious as fuck.

Am I weird to think that?

Yes?

No?

Does anyone else feel like that is just way off base?  Like what if I don't agree?  What then?  Do I complain?  Do I lie and hide my true feelings from the world?  What then, fooligans, what then?

So am I the only one?  Or am I not alone in thinking that there are probably other Beethoven CDs that one needs to purchase?

Let me know what you think.  I need feedback on this.

Parting joke:

Snake 1:  Aw, shit, I hope I'm not poisonous!
Snake 2:  Well, why would you hope that?
Snake 3:  I just bit my tongue.

And on that note (haha, note.  This entire post has been about leaving notes in parentheses while trying to disguise itself as a post about a musician, where notes also apply.  I'm not funny at all, am I?)

I'm done.

Love and kisses,

L.

P.S.  I'm finally being challenged in school because I'm reading primary source documents from the fucking 1700s and all anyone in my family can do is laugh because they've all been waiting for this day.  Eagerly.  What a pack of rabid despair-mongers.  Not to say I don't love my family because I do.  But if there is one thing I can say about them, it is that they are absolutely mental.

And as for primary source documents from the 1700s... Well, if there is one thing I can say, it is that no one back then knew how to get to the fucking point.  Circumlocuting all over the place, these blokes were.  If there is one thing in the world that I can say about writers of any kind today, it is that they can at least get to the fucking point.  Maybe I'm not included in this, but whatever.  On the most part.  At least it isn't

BUT since the wise and righteous governor of the universe, has permitted our fellow men
to make us slaves, we bow in submission to him, and determine to behave in such a
manner, as that we may have reason to expect the divine approbation of, and assistance
in, our peaceable and lawful attempts to gain our freedom.
No copyright infringement intended.  Though I don't know if it is copyright.  Might be something else.

Anyway, I'm done.  That was my little rant on how I absolutely hate history.  WITH A PASSION, MIND YOU ALL.

I have to go kill myself now,

Love and kisses,

L.
